THIS COURSE

Cubism is one of the most important art movements of the 20th century. Yet it is also quite difficult to understand and often dismissed with a comment “my five-year-old could paint that”. If you want to find out more about this still controversial style this course is for you. A brief introduction to the movement that changed the trajectory of 20th-century art, even if its core phase was just a few years long. You will get to know the key artists and some of the less-known ones, see their work and find out about their lives. You will see in a nutshell how Cubism came to be and then how each artist took it in another direction. And you will definitely know your Analytical Cubism from the Synthetic one.

It is an intro course, so we will not cover every artist that ever created Cubist paintings, we will however give you enough information to shine with a good understanding of the movement the next time you have that glass of wine at a gallery opening. You will be able to confidently identify the “traces of Cubist inspirations” when you see them ;). You will also understand why no one’s five-year-old could paint a Cubist painting.

P.S. We are sorry but due to super high costs of some image licensing, we won’t show you some of the paintings directly, but we will only link to them. We had to make this decision – without it we would spend a fortune on the images and we would never be able to earn any penny out of this course (and we need to at least pay the author!).

I really enjoyed this short primer on Cubism. I am generally not attracted to modern art and this tutorial helped me expand my appreciation and experience of it. Learning about the movement as well as being introduced to artists provided ways of understanding the artist's message. I found myself liking some of the paintings previewed. I like the face that my art horizons have expanded. thank you for that!
